Parents with Multiple Children

How the Parent Survey Works with Siblings.

This guide explains how the parent survey process works for parents who have more than one child, covering two different scenarios:

  1. Siblings at the same school.

  2. Siblings at different schools (within the same MAT or group).

Scenario 1: Siblings in the Same School

To keep the survey experience as simple as possible for parents and maximise response rates, our system follows a "one family, one survey" rule for siblings at the same school.

  • One Link Per Family: Parents with two or more children at your school will receive only one survey link.

  • Overall View: They are asked to complete this single survey based on their overall view and experience.

  • Data Analysis: In line with data analysis best practice, this single response is then intelligently applied to all of their children and their respective characteristics.

Example: A parent has two children at the same school:

  1. A child in Year 7 who is not SEND.

  2. A child in Year 9 who is SEND.

Their single survey response will be included in the data analysis for Year 7, Year 9, the non-SEND group, and the SEND group.

This method is the most effective and accurate way to deliver the survey, ensuring that a parent's feedback is correctly represented across all relevant groups their children belong to.

Scenario 2: Siblings in Different Schools (within the same MAT/Group)

When a parent has children at more than one school in your Trust or group, they are providing feedback on distinct and separate institutions. Therefore, the process is different.

  • A "Per-School" Approach: The parent will receive a separate survey link for each school their children attend.

  • Why? The survey is designed to gather specific feedback about the parent's experience with each individual school. Combining this feedback would not be accurate.

How to Ensure Clear Communication

To prevent confusion, it is crucial that your survey invitation email clearly identifies which school the survey is for.

When customising your survey invitation, we strongly recommend you insert the 'School Name' placeholder (e.g., [School Name]) into the email subject line and/or body.

This ensures parents know exactly which school they are providing feedback on.

Example: A parent has children in the "Excellence Trust" at Oakwood Primary and Hillside Secondary.

By adding the [School Name] placeholder to your subject line, the parent will receive two clear and distinct invitations:

  • Subject: "Your Voice Matters: Parent Survey for Oakwood Primary"

  • Subject: "Your Voice Matters: Parent Survey for Hillside Secondary"
